2" Crayford Focusers for Newtonians, Dobsonians and SCTs
These solid GSO Crayford focusers can transform your scope into
a dream machine! The factory focuser is the weakest link in most
imported scopes. Sticky grease, rough racks, shims and springs
for crude adjustment, and bad feel are common.
Bolt on our Crayford focuser and enjoy smooth operation, great
feel and precise adjustability. The draw tube and unified
compression ring visual back are machined from solid aluminum,
clear anodized, and ride on precision bearings and a roller shaft.
No grease or plastic glides! The 1/8" thick-wall drawtube is
internally baffled and anti-reflection blackened.
The bodies are black anodized machined aluminum and have
tension and lock controls that adjust the focuser anywhere from
a very light feel to fully locked. Whether it's a light eyepiece or
a heavy camera, control is smooth and precise, with no image
shift, backlash, stickyness or bumpy feel.
The two speed versions have a 10:1 ratio reduction knob for super
fine focus control! All come with compression ring 1.25" adapter.
These focusers don't fit the Meade SN scopes without extensive
modification of the scope!
#FNCx and #FNMx have 1-5/8" travel, minimum height is 2.8",
max height is 4.8" without the adapter, the base is 3.5" square.
Weighs 1.4 lbs. Mounting hole pattern is 2-3/4" x 2-7/8". The
drawtube outside diameter is 2.3" or 58.5mm.
#FNC3 has a flat base for truss Dobs and ATM's, #FNC4 is for
Orion XT Intellescopes and some other XT's. See below.
Some scopes (Skywatcher Dobs) require new mounting holes to
be drilled in the tube, but they have a large center hole for the
focuser drawtube. Our #FNBP is a 1/6" thick ABS plate that fits
between the #FNM1 and FNM2 focusers and the tube, to cover
the oversize hole. Photo below.
These focusers do not easily fit the Meade Schmidt-Newt scopes!
The center focuser hole in the scope tube has to be enlarged and
new mounting holes drilled, and an eyepiece extension is needed
to achieve focus with many eyepieces. But it's worth the effort to
replace the crappy Meade SN focuser!
